About Duhang Middle School
Duhang Middle School is a well-known “starter quest” among local urban exploration enthusiasts. Abandoned in 2008, it has now been 18 years since its closure (as of this writing).
Honestly, I don’t consider myself an “urban exploration enthusiast.” After all, exploring abandoned buildings often means maneuvering through dusty , dirty , and messy environments, frequently leaving you covered in grime. If you’re unlucky, you might get injured by unstable structures or have to confront patrolling security guards or police .
But I enjoy capturing “traces left by time” , or more accurately, “artificial structures transformed by nature”
When I first rode my motorcycle to Duhang Middle School, I felt nothing special. But on my second visit, I noticed some objects and structures had changed since my previous trip, and several workers seemed to be conducting construction on-site.
It suddenly dawned on me: everything here that seemed abandoned and timeless might soon undergo irreversible change . This reminded me of a friend’s words: “Some seemingly ordinary photos may only be captured once in this world.”
Thus, whether driven by kitsch or the need for “emergency preservation photography”, I returned multiple times in quick succession with my Pentax 67II and Technikardan S45. The Technikardan handled perspective and spatial composition, while the Pentax 67II captured close-ups and exploited perspective distortion to reveal unique beauty.
